| ORIGINAL 2009 Jamie Reid 'God Save Damien Hirst: For the Love of Disruptive Strategies and Utopian Visions in Contemporary Art and Culture No.1. [London]: [L-13]' |
GOD SAVE DAMIEN HIRST 61cm x 45cm. Original giclee print. Signed and numbered by Jamie Reid.
Limited edition, 63 of 113, signed and numbered by Reid, of the print that caused so much controversy on the launch of the Red Rag to a Bull campaign. The Red Rag to a Bull campaign was launch in response to Damien Hirst demanded that a 16 year old street artist pay him £200 for copyright infringement. Hirst, who has made an estimated £500 million from sales of his art work, was seen, by the campaigners, as a bully and a hypocrite, as he himself has taken ideas from other artists, most notably, it is claimed, a former friend, the artist John LeKay, whose crystal-studded skulls done in the 90's bear resemblance to 'For the Love of God.' Red Rag to a Bull, an artist collective including Jamie Reid, James Cauty and Billy Childish, amongst others, launched a campaign to get back at Hirst by selling limited edition works that lampoon Hirst's work and name, as well copyright laws. The edition sold out almost immediately and is sure to become an important artefact and Hirst related item.
